Deer Creek School Board members recently voted to name the district's newest elementary school site after one of the oldest.
The new school, set to open in the fall of 2013, will be named Spring Creek Elementary School after one of the 13 original one-room school houses in the Deer Creek School District.
Ground was broken in June at the construction site on Rockwell Avenue between NW 150 and NW 164. Future students of the school turned out at the groundbreaking with hard hats and shovels in hand.
Series of projects
The new school is one in a series of projects under way in the district, including a stadium and multisport facility and a new performing arts and athletic center. The district passed a $142.1 million bond issue in 2009 to cover several projects.
“We are excited about the opportunity to continue to support our student growth and offer excellent facilities for our students to obtain a great education while here at Deer Creek,” school board President David Miller said.
