MIAMI (AP) — The defense is likely to wrap up its case Tuesday in the trial of a man accused of fatally shooting Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor during a failed 2007 burglary.
Lawyers for 23-year-old Eric Rivera Jr. are trying to show jurors that his confession was improperly coerced by investigators. Testimony on Monday showed that Rivera, then 17, was questioned for hours before his family was contacted.
Rivera faces life in prison if convicted. Four other people from the Fort Myers area were charged in the case, with one pleading guilty. The others will go on trial later.
Earlier testimony indicated the group drove to Miami intending to burglarize Taylor's home because they believed he kept a lot of cash on hand. They did not think Taylor would be there.
