Defensive-minded Midwest City stuffs Del City

The Bombers held a stout Del City offense to 94 total yards, allowing only a special teams touchdown in a 16-8 victory over the rival Eagles Friday night at Del City's Robert Kalsu Stadium.

“Stopping the run was our emphasis,” defensive tackle Brandon Jones said. “Anthony Mason is a great running back. We had to stop them, and that's what we did, so it was a great win.”

Del City's defense showed its strength, too. The Eagles caused a second-quarter safety, setting up Davion Freeman's 60-yard free kick return for the team's only touchdown.

Midwest City finished with just 160 total yards, with backup quarterback Aaron McKinney and running back KeSean Brown coming up with big plays on their lone scoring drive to start the third quarter.

Demeco Wright put the Bombers on top later in the period with a 59-yard punt return.

Each Bomber win this season has been by eight points or less, but with Friday's victory, the Bombers match the win total of a dismal 2012 season, and head into district play next week at Norman North riding high.

“This really gives us a boost going to Norman North in our first district game,” Sunderland said. “We've got momentum now.”
