Deion Sanders said he contacted former Oklahoma and Dallas Cowboys coach Barry Switzer to help him find opponents for his new Dallas-area high school team, Prime Prep Academy, which is how he was able to line up last week's game with Millwood.
Now, Sanders is looking for more.
With his team unable to compete in district play in Texas, Sanders is welcoming to the idea of returning to Oklahoma for more games this season.
Prime Prep is not allowed to play games against teams that are part of the University Interscholastic League, Texas' version of the OSSAA. So they're in need outside opponents.
In addition to Millwood, which won 40-12 Friday, Prime Prep has played two Texas teams that are part of a private-school league outside the UIL. Sanders said that based on student population, Prime Prep qualified for Class 2A in Texas, though they opted to be in a 3A district.
“We're willing to come back,” Sanders said. “I think the whole month of October is open.
“We're not stacking the deck, you can see that. We're 0-3. We're just trying to get these guys games to allow them to do what they're gifted to do.”
EDMOND NORTH'S HEINEN WINS AT HEFNER
The only player in the field to shoot below 70 both rounds, Edmond North junior Nick Heinen pulled away for a four-shot victory in the OJGT Lake Hefner Shootout Sunday.
Heinen played Hefner's North course in 10-under-par 134 for two rounds (68-66) to edge a pair of his Edmond counterparts, Griffin Pierce and Ty Tamura, each at 138.
Yujeong Son of Norman finished at 1-under-par 143 (71-72) to win the girls event by four shots over McGuinness' Alexis Sadeghy.
TITANS DOWN GUTHRIE
Abby Meador struck out eight as Carl Albert shut out Guthrie 6-0 at home Tuesday night.
Madisyn Long went 2 for 4 with an RBI, doubling home Morgan Heard in the third.
Heard and McKenzie Jones had a pair of hits each.
Meador allowed just three hits, two in the fourth inning. The first runner was doubled off at first after an infield popup and Meador struck out the final batter of the inning to escape the jam.
Carl Albert plays Northwest in a district doubleheader Monday. The Titans are tied with Deer Creek atop District 5A-1. Carl Albert and Deer Creek split their games this season.
