Two metro-area dentists who decided to offer children $1 for each pound of their Halloween candy this year said they were pleased with the response.

The candy will be sent to troops overseas, said Dr. Lori LoVette of Oklahoma City and Dr. Edward Harroz Jr. of Midwest City.

Harroz said he collected 138 pounds of candy after Halloween; LoVette gathered about 125 pounds.

Both dentists said they plan to repeat the offer next year, in order to give troops a treat and help protect children’s teeth from cavities.

The candy is being sent to the California Army National Guard and Blue Star Mothers to be packaged up for troops.
