Deputy saves woman from cold water of river Published: April 22, 2013

ARDMORE -- The heroic effort of a Johnston County deputy is credited with saving the life of a woman who had fallen into the Blue River.

Sheriff Jon Smith told the Daily Ardmoreite that Deputy Bobby Morgan, Undersheriff Johnny Russell and Deputy Vernon Williams responded to the scene last Thursday afternoon after a call about a body floating in the river.

They found a woman floating with only her face above water, but realized by her groaning that she was still alive.

Morgan was able to get to the woman with a flotation device and bring her out of the water.

Both were treated at a local hospital for effects of being in the icy water and released.
