DETROIT (AP) — Pet owners who need some help feeding and sheltering their animals this winter can get some help thanks to the efforts of a Detroit-based dog rescue group.

Detroit Dog Rescue is set to host its annual Pet Pantry Project on Saturday.

At the four-hour event in Detroit, pet owners can get a free bag of pet food, hay for dog house bedding and insulation and a Detroit Dog Rescue goodie bag filled with assorted treats, supplies and pet care information and resources.

Detroit Dog Rescue spokesman David Rudolph says last year's Pet Pantry Project gave away over 5,000 pounds of free dog food, 50 bags of hay and 20 small, medium and large size dog houses.
