Supersize Christmas bulbs, pine cones wrapped in red ribbons and lights are going up with care — and the assistance of a crane — at Devon Energy Center.
Preparations for the first Christmas at the new 50-story headquarters at 333 W Sheridan Ave. actually began two weeks ago with the installation of lighting in the south courtyard and rigging inside the Rotunda.
Most passers-by, however, are far more likely to notice the installation this week of colorful human-size Christmas bulbs along Hudson and Harvey avenues and in the new courtyard across from the Myriad Gardens.
Rob Reynolds, construction manager with Hines, which manages the property, said the decorations are a trademark of Stephen Stefanou, whose other iconic, large-scale seasonal displays include Rockefeller Center in New York City.
“Larger-than-life holiday images … that's what they are known for,” Reynolds said. “They (Devon) wanted to show a holiday image that's unique and iconic, that gives an image people can remember year after year and hand down to their children and their children's children.”
