Dez Bryant’s outburst on Sunday in the Dallas Cowboys’ 31-30 loss to the Detroit Lions led to all sorts of reactions, from our own Jenni Carlson saying that Dallas puts up with Dez to Berry Tramel said it was business as usual for the Cowboys. ESPN’s Jason Whitlock said regardless of Bryant’s intent you can’t justify what he did. posted audio of Bryant’s first outburst with Tony Romo, which appears to make the former Oklahoma State receiver sound positive. But that doesn’t account for the second outburst later with Jason Witten and DeMarcus Ware. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s “Cowboys Corner” blog said, however, that Romo backed Bryant again. asked players around the league how they would deal with a sideline outburst. Here are some samples:

Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Cary Williams:

“I’ve been one of those guys. I just think that’s a part of the game. It’s an emotional game. I think Dez Bryant is a tremendous player. I think he’s just a guy that wears his emotion on his sleeve. To a degree, when you’re young like that, that’s the way you know how to express yourself. I’ve dealt with those things and still deal with those things today.”

Carolina Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson:

“If he’s going to do it, pull him to the side. Don’t do it on live TV. I understand being emotional and all that. You got to understand we’re all grown men. You’ve got to respect each other. … Sometimes it needs to be done, especially on the defensive side. There’s a good way to do it and a bad way to do it. When people are listening to you, it’s a good thing. If you do it all the time, I don’t think people will listen to you.”

Other Thursday tidbits:’s Myron Medcalf has a good story on Marcus Smart, his decision to stay in school and Smart’s commitment to his family.

One particular ticket price on StubHub for OU-Baylor rivals a World Series Game 6 ticket, says the Dallas Morning News.
