Did you happen to see these recent stories? If so, enjoy them again. If not, be ready to smile.

Nutty parking practice

If you’re traveling to Leeds or Manchester anytime in the near future, and planning on renting a vehicle, you might want to read this. http://tinyurl.com/mqwlu9c

It seems, according to The Associated Press, that you can cut your parking fees somewhat at some of the parking lots in these British cities by paying with “the dark brown seeds that fall from horse chestnut trees each autumn.”

The AP says: “Town Centre Car Parks is accepting horse chestnuts for parking time at a rate of 20 pence (32 cents) apiece. So far it has collected about 1,500 of the nuts, known as conkers after the traditional schoolyard game in which children try to smash them.”

Nope. They haven’t gone nuts. Well, not in that sense. There is a very serious and environmentally strategic idea behind the plan, which was to have ended last weekend but may be extended.

Check out the report and see why this company came up with the nutty idea.

But he wasn’t speeding

In a scene reminiscent of a similar one involving the late country singer George Jones, a Pennsylvania man was picked up traveling down

the roadway on a riding lawn mower.

And, like Jones, he had been drinking, The Associated Press reported. http://tinyurl.com/lefnazj

Thomas Marrone, 55, was charged with driving drunk after he was found with an open can of beer on the mower, heading, he said, home.

Police said he smelled of alcohol when they found him and had the been, open, in his mower’s storage compartment.

Marrone told officers he simply was driving home … nearly 6 1/2 miles away.

They didn’t let him finish his trip.

It’s a wacky world out there at times.
