NEW YORK (AP) — A portrait by 17th century artist Diego Velazquez will be on view in the U.S. for the first time at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Museum officials say "Portrait of Duke Francesco I d'Este" will be exhibited from April 16 through July 14 as part of the museum's renovated "New European Paintings Galleries, 1250 - 1800."

The painting is on special loan while its temporarily-closed home museum in Modena, Italy repairs damages suffered in a 2012 earthquake.
