An elderly disabled veteran shot an intruder at his home Saturday evening, authorities said.

Muskogee police officer Pedro Zardeneta said officers went to the 600 block of Kankakee about 10:45 p.m. on the report of a shooting. The disabled veteran told police he shot a man who was trying to break into his home.

Police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital where he was admitted for treatment.

Zardeneta said police would not be releasing any more details, including the names of those involved, until Monday morning.

He said investigators at the scene did not think the homeowner did anything criminal. He said the wounded man likely would be charged with first-degree burglary. has disabled the comments for this article.
