Midwest City coach Darrell Hall expects big things out of his defensive ends, though he knows it will likely take some time for them to come together as a group.

District 6A-3 coaches' poll

1. Midwest City (11-1)

2. Edmond North (9-3)

3. Yukon (7-4)

4. Lawton Eisenhower (4-7)

5. Norman North (6-5)

6. Putnam City North (4-6)

7. Moore (2-8)

8. U.S. Grant (0-10)

The Bombers have a pair of new starters there in junior LaDean Allen and sophomore D.J. Johnson. Conner Kinsey is also expected to see time there.

“I thought they played very well,” Hall, who coaches the defensive ends, said after Midwest City's scrimmage Thursday. “We've got to keep getting better there.”

Yet again, Midwest City is picked to win its district, now 6A-3.

The Bombers have not lost a district game since 2006, a streak of 37 consecutive games.

Edmond North is picked second, followed by Yukon and Lawton Eisenhower.

EDMOND NORTH'S WOODS IMPRESSES

Edmond North coach Jeremy Dombek is singing the praises of three-year starting cornerback Curtis Woods, who put on 15 pounds in the offseason.

“He is a superstar,” Dombek said. “He is way better than we ever thought he would be as a senior.”

Woods is up to 180 pounds and playing more physical and with more confidence this year, Dombek said. The senior should start getting the attention of college recruiters, he said.

“He is just extremely improved and he was already a great football player,” Dombek said. “I think he is a big-time player and somebody needs to start looking at him.”

GAVRAS, MEYER STILL BATTLING FOR QB SPOT

Norman North's Peyton Gavras and Channing Meyer have been battling throughout the preseason for the quarterback spot.

Through the first two scrimmages, Gavras has looked like the top option, including leading the Timberwolves to three scores in last week's scrimmage at Tulsa Union.
