Laverne returns many key players from its 2011 Class B playoff team. Laverne coach Tim Allen said he thinks the strength of the 2012 squad lies in its abundance of experience.
Laverne lost in the semifinals to eventual state champion Caddo. The Tigers' only regular-season loss last season was at Pond-Creek Hunter.
“I like our team this year,” Allen said. “We graduated three seniors from last year's squad. We've got a lot of returning players with quite a bit of experience. That's always nice to have.”
SEILING TO RELY ON HORN
Seiling coach Brad Spurlock said he'll rely on Buster Horn's leadership and athleticism to lead a relatively young team.
The senior running back helped lead the Wildcats to a 7-2 record in the district and reach the second round of the 2011 playoffs.
“The one constant we got, we got a good tailback that worked well for them last year,” Spurlock said. “I think he'll do well for this year.”
POND CREEK-HUNTER COACH EXCITED
Pond Creek-Hunter coach David Kerr is excited to see what this season holds for the Panthers. Kerr said he expects senior running back and linebacker Brady Krittenbrink to be the “team leader” this season.
Pond Creek-Hunter reached the playoffs after posting a 7-2 regular-season record. It lost in the first round to eventual state semifinalist Davenport.
“We've got a lot of kids back, a lot of veterans, of course we have a few spots to fill, but we're pretty excited,” Kerr said. “I think our class is kind of wide open a little bit.”
MEDFORD EXCITED ABOUT SCHUSTER
First-year Medford coach John Hampton said he's looking forward to the challenge of coaching eight-man football at the Class B level after coaching in Class C last season.
He said he's impressed with senior Blake Schuster.
“He'd never played football until he came to Medford three years ago,” Hampton said. “He's more than likely going to start on both sides of the ball for me.”
