Trey Sanchez's first head coaching gig is less of a job and more of a project.

Following last season's 0-10 disappointment, Oklahoma Christian Academy and former coach Keith Laugh parted ways, clearing the path for Sanchez, one of Laugh's assistants.

Helping out with the offensive schemes the past few seasons, Sanchez has some experience with these players, dating back to when he coached a number of them to success at the junior varsity level.

But he's walking into an entirely different situation now.

Sanchez takes over a program that was 2-18 over the past two seasons and 7-41 in its past five, coming within single digits only once during a winless 2010.

“No question, we have a lot to work on,” Sanchez said. “But all the boys are coming in with the right attitude and it seems like everything is going in the right direction.”

An immediate playoff berth seems far-fetched, but Sanchez said his senior-filled team is confident in a quick turnaround.

“The attitude we have is to win the state title,” Sanchez said. “Now, we may have different week-to-week goals, but if you don't think you can win each game you play, you don't have the right mindset.”
