District B-3 football notebook: Weightlifting competition inspires OCA

Oklahoma Christian Academy hosted the eight-man power lifting competition earlier this year, and it had a profound impact on some of the team’s football players.

OCA went 1-9 last season, and one reason why was because the team needed to get stronger. To that end, the weightlifting competition showed what other schools do in the off-season to build strength.

"I think that event will be one of the big turnarounds for our program,” OCA coach Keith Lough said. "Our kids saw what other schools are doing, and there has been a lot of excitement. We’ve had a lot more kids hitting the weights harder than they ever have before, and it was because of what they saw.”

Davenport returns duo
Davenport enjoyed one of its better seasons in 2008, winning 10 games and advancing to the playoffs. They were also pretty good in the district with a 7-1 mark. And things look even brighter this year with the return of running back Tyler Phillips and quarterback Kiel Harris.
