District B-4 member Davenport finished 2011 as the Class B state runner-up and averaged 45 points a game last season. The Bulldogs return running back and wide receiver Kevin Thomas.
Thomas rushed for just 420 yards last season but averaged 9.1 yards per carry. He caught 43 balls for 674 yards with 12 touchdowns.
Davenport coach John Greenfield said his offense will focus more on putting the ball in the air to capitalize on Thomas ability at wideout.
“He'll carry the ball some, but we're probably going to throw a little more than usual,” he said. “He's such a great receiver. We don't want to take him out of there.”
BOWLEGS LOOKS TO DOUTHIT
Bowlegs coach Scott Douthit said the Bison will only return three starters, but two of them will be quarterback Tyler Douthit, who is the coach's son, and defensive back Cullen Tatum.
Scott Douthit said he'll lean on the two seniors to lead the team in a tough district.
