District C-1 football notebook: Finding a running back will be key for Forgan

BRANDON CHATMON • Published: July 30, 2009
Forgan heads into fall camp looking for a new running back after returning starter Brian Morris transferred in July.

Coach Doug Bowles said finding someone to step in at the spot will be a key to his team’s success in 2009.

"I don’t know yet,” Bowles said when asked who he expected to fill the void. "We may have to run more one-back this year.”

Expect Miguel Ordonez, Forgan’s returning starter at fullback, to play a more prominent role in the offense.

Multi-talented

Keep an eye on Buffalo standout senior Anthony Bryer. The 5-11, 185-pounder had 68 carries for 433 yards and three touchdowns, 47 receptions for 841 yards and eight scores, along with 101 tackles as a junior.

Buffalo coach Blake Lamle expects Bryer to line up at running back, receiver, quarterback and defensive end this season.

Line play will be key for Shattuck

Shattuck’s chances of breaking Morrison’s long-standing record of 90 straight wins could rest on the shoulders of the Indians’ offensive and defensive lines.
