District C-2 football: Aaron Vondrak to lead Thackerville

Thackerville coach Cody McCage knows it’s going to be tough to duplicate last year’s success.

In the Class C championship, Thackerville trailed Shattuck 38-36 in the third quarter before Shattuck rolled to a 68-44 victory and its sixth straight championship.

"All we can try to do is get back to that level,” McCage said. "We just have to be willing to put in the work.”

Thackerville lost a lot on the offensive side of the ball but returns senior running back Aaron Vondrak. McCage said the team will do whatever it can to get the ball into Vondrak’s hands at all times.

Temple loaded, ready for run

While a lot of the teams in C-2 are dealing with the loss of numerous starters, that’s not the case for Temple.

But after a semifinals appearance last year, coach Brad Spurlock knows the team is still far away from its goal.

"Three years ago we made the finals. I thought we came back with an even better team, but we ended up losing in the second round,” Spurlock said.

The biggest question for Temple is the status of junior quarterback Deshon Wartley, who may transfer.
