Little big man leads Temple

Temple is the favorite to win the District C-2 title, and smallish Kyle Baze is a very big reason why.

Baze is a 5-8, 150-pound cornerback and receiver for the Tigers who has started for the past three years. Defensively, he has piled up 140 career tackles. And many of those tackles have been highlight hits.

"(He) hits harder than anyone I have ever coached," said Temple coach Brad Spurlock.

Baze had a career-high 55 tackles as a junior and added two interceptions and three forced fumbles as Temple went 9-2.

Ryan drops into Class C

A Class C state championship seems possible for Ryan in 2010 after coming close in 2009 in Class B.

The Cowboys went 12-1 in the higher classification and reached the state semifinals, where they fell to Canton. Ryan lost standout quarterback Colby Barrett, but tailback Trevor Bettis returns to carry the load. Bettis, a senior, ran for more than 1,000 yards last season and averaged 8.9 yards per carry.
