I know CPR & basic First Aid. Sadly, when I worked in law enforcement, there was a number of officers who thought CPR on a person suspected of HIV [or some hazardous crud] should be done by doing 15 foot compressions on their chest- followed by two quick puffs at the person's face [from a standing position]. :>( This despite the fact that we were all supplied safety CPR masks [or shields] to prevent the spread of viruses / germs / bodily fluids-- and rubber gloves.

In these days of rampant illegal drug use and deadly viruses being carried by people who often look healthy on first view- its sad to think that if you were in need of emergency CPR or first aid to stop blood loss, people would be afraid to help you because they fear exposure to blood or fluids and the real risk of death or terrible sickness.

I think many people aren't so much afraid for themselves, but for their family whom they might take a deadly communicable sickness home too.

And, for those worried about hurting someone while doing CPR--if your doing CPR properly on an adult, its not unusual to break a rib. On a baby / child you certainly need to use much less pressure.

I did heimlich on 2 people but my adrenaline was so high that I broke their ribs. If they hadn't been very slose friends they probably would have sued. Was taught how to do the drowning victim and heart massage but never actually tried. just used Resussey-Ann the plastic doll. I hope I never have to ever try on a real person. I've brought many baby calves from near death. I wish it along with swimming was taught in every school and for that I'd gladly pay another cent increase in sales tax but by one comment in another forum it looks like Okla. has enough in a rainy day fund to pay for it. We haqd a high school teacher who took it upon himself to try to teach us how to lift an unconsious person. I liked ALL of my Okla. teachers but Mr. Hill was my favorite.

Hey, Lynn. Did you ever hear those lyrics "There's a bathroom on the right."? I swear I couldn't figure out what the bathroom had to do with the rest of the song!

yes...but probably really do need a refresher course. And, too, methods are updated from time to time...it would be wise to stay current.

Yeah, they were real big for a while back in the '60s with hits like "Proud Mary" and "Bad Moon Risin'"...er...wait a minute. That was CCR. Forget it.
