Published: November 6, 2009
A documentary on Oklahoma-born author Ralph Ellison will be part of a film series shown Monday as part of the National Humanities Conference in Omaha, Neb.
The Oklahoma Humanities Council submitted the 2002 film directed by Avon Kirkland, "Ralph Ellison: An American Journey,” for consideration. Film Streams’ Ruth Sokolof Theater, Omaha’s nonprofit cinema, will screen the film at 7 p.m. Monday. It is one of eight documentaries being shown within the "American Stories” film series through Nov. 12. The series is presented by Film Streams in collaboration with the Nebraska Humanities Council and the Federation of State Humanities Councils. "Ralph Ellison: An American Journey” explores the literary and intellectual legacy of Ellison, one of the past century’s most important American writers on the subject of race and individual identity.
