HOLMDEL, N.J. (AP) — Officials say a dog that apparently was thrown out of a moving car on the Garden State Parkway last weekend had been taken without its owner's consent.
The dog was seriously injured in the incident, but was released from a veterinary hospital on Monday afternoon.
The incident happened between noon and 1 p.m. Saturday, in the southbound express lanes of the highway near Exit 116 in Holmdel Township.
After landing on the roadway, the brown female mixed terrier was struck by another car.
A good Samaritan who saw what happened stayed with the dog and also called state police. A trooper rushed the dog to the veterinary hospital, where doctors were able to stop its internal bleeding and treat other injuries.
