Dollar coin advocates renew push to replace dollar bill Published: July 29, 2013

People who want to replace the flimsy dollar bill with a sturdier metal coin are pushing their cause again.

It costs only 5 cents to produce a $1 bill and 18 cents to produce a $1 coin, the report released this week by Aaron Klein, a former deputy assistant secretary of Treasury, states.

But the lifespan of a $1 bill is much shorter -- 4.8 years compared to 30 years.
