NORMAN — Oklahoma had just marched to another first-possession touchdown to take a 7-0 lead on Nebraska.

Four ticks of the clock later, Dominique Franks stood in the end zone with touchdown No. 2 in a wild opening 5 1/2 minutes that sent the Sooners to victory. All but locked the Sooners into victory.

That quick. That decisive.

Franks flipped all momentum OU’s way with his Pick 6 – a full-speed-the-other-way interception of a Joe Ganz screen pass – zipping 19 yards to the score.

“Dom Franks, I thought, really ignited us, jumping that screen,” said Sooners coach Bob Stoops. “It’s a good way to start a big game.”

On Nebraska’s first snap, the Huskers sent in a call that should have been a safe play. A quick-hitting “bubble” screen, with Ganz taking the snap, dropping one step and firing toward wideout Todd Peterson.

But Franks was quicker-hitting, recognizing the play as a Husker favorite paired with their running game.

“I just noticed the formation,” Franks said. “And I jumped it. When I saw them bubble out to me, I jumped it, slid in front of them and caught the ball.”

Franks’ video study had revealed Nebraska’s penchant for the play.

“I said, ‘If they throw this in the game, I’m going to pick it,’” Franks said. “And I did. I got a chance and I made a play.”

A game-changing play.

Franks said his only challenges were not getting too anxious, and hanging on to the ball.

“I disguised it a little bit,” said Franks, who made a similar interception against Kansas State.
