RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Dominion Resources says it has acquired six solar development projects in California from Recurrent Energy.

The Richmond, Va., energy provider said Tuesday that the sites are located in California's Fresno, Kern and Kings counties.

Construction began in the first quarter and the facilities are expected to be commercially operational in late 2014 or early 2015. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Recurrent Energy develops utility-scale solar projects in North America and has even garnered investments from Google Inc.

Dominion CEO Thomas Farrell II said the investment is part of the company's expansion of its renewable energy portfolio. It currently has solar energy sites in Georgia, Connecticut and Indiana.

Dominion Resources Inc. is one of the nation's largest producers and transporters of energy and serves retail customers in 15 states.
