NORMAN — Oklahoma linebacker Dominique Alexander and cornerback Zack Sanchez were named to the Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-America team, which was released Monday.
The two Sooner defenders were the only two players from the Big 12 Conference on the team.
Alexander, from Tulsa, recorded 80 tackles as a true freshman in 2013. His role on the defense was enhanced after senior linebacker Corey Nelson’s season-ending injury in early October.
Sanchez, a redshirt freshman from Keller, Texas, made 46 tackles and intercepted two passes this season, including a pick of Alabama’s AJ McCarron in Oklahoma’s 45-31 Sugar Bowl upset victory.
