Donald Sterling plans to sue the NBA for $1 billion one day after his wife reached agreement to sell the franchise to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer for $2 billion.
According to Sterling's attorney, the purpose of the lawsuit is to seek damages for Sterling's lifetime ban and termination of ownership.
The league and Sterling's wife, Shelly Sterling, agreed to a deal to sell the team to Ballmer for the NBA record amount Thursday. The contract was sent to the NBA for approval a few days before the league's Board of Governors was set to vote on whether to terminate the Sterlings' ownership of the team.
