BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Department of Transportation has issued a travel alert for the southwestern part of the state as blowing snow is reducing visibility.

Drivers in the area including the cities of Beach, Dickinson, Mott, Hettinger and Bowman are encouraged to reduce speeds and drive accordingly. The DOT is also asking motorists to be ready for rapidly changing conditions and extremely cold wind chills.

A travel alert means motorists can still travel but may encounter areas of challenging winter weather driving conditions.

Drivers are encouraged to monitor road conditions on the state DOT website at http://www.dot.nd.gov/ or by calling 511.
