With elite national recruit Deondre Clark, an LSU commit, leading an experienced group of defensive linemen, there’s no mistaking that Douglass is strong up front.

But linebacker Johnny Jones, who is drawing Division I recruiting interest himself, is excited about what he’s seen from the less experienced linebackers and defensive backs in early workouts.

Jones, who has a scholarship offer from Morgan State, and Brandon Jackson return to fill two of the three spots at linebacker, but most of the secondary will be made up of new starters.

“We’ve got a dominant front four, but I’m in love with our back seven right now,” said Jones, who had 61 tackles and 15 sacks, splitting time between linebacker and defensive end last season. “Things are really starting to click back there. The secondary is really coming along.”

Jones and Clark were the only players in the current senior class who played extensively as freshmen when Douglass won the 2010 Class 4A state championship.

“I feel real old now,” Jones said with a laugh. “I didn’t think this time would come, but I’m ready to make the most of my senior year.”
