He's watching carefully as city leaders discuss plans to develop the nearby "Core to Shore” area — and looking for ways to ensure Bricktown remains a key part of downtown's momentum.
Toward that end, the Bricktown Association, Downtown Oklahoma City Inc. and the city of Oklahoma City have employed consultants to look at the entertainment district's parking and future development.
The parking study is being wrapped up and is awaiting release, while the master development plan is just getting started.
Cowan said Bricktown is trying to diversify and tap into other areas and he hopes that in future years it can boast being home to at least three museums, more hotels and even an outdoor mall.
He predicts a light rail system will connect Bricktown with the Adventure District — which includes the Oklahoma City Zoo, Remington Park Racino, Science Museum Oklahoma, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and Frontier City — and Will Rogers World Airport, while canal extensions will hook up with Ford Center and State Fair Park.
He said merchants and property owners are working together to make visitors' stays less of a hassle — and he predicts future efforts might include car GPS systems directing people to the best places to park. Cowan also predicts Sheridan Avenue might someday become a pedestrian-friendly green space that will include an outdoor performing arts stage.
