YUKON — A $400,000 home in Yukon will be raffled off to support
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital — but not before giving people a chance for a peek at it.
Those who are feeling lucky, or who just want to support the renowned children's hospital in Memphis, Tenn., can buy a $100 ticket. The winner of the Dream Home will be announced at noon June 29 on Fox 25 television.
At most, 6,500 raffle tickets will be sold; so far 1,850 are spoken for, said
Mandy Flood,
St. Jude's local spokeswoman.
The French country-style home is at 600 Stone Mill Blvd. in the Stone Mill addition near NW 10 and Mustang Road in Yukon. Tommy Crabtree, who owns Crabtree Custom Homes, was the builder. To get to Stone Mill, from Interstate 40 and Mustang Road go north about ¾ mile to the addition, on the west side of the street.
The furnished home will be open weekends through June 22. On Saturdays, the home will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays, noon to 5 p.m.
The 3,355-square-foot home has three bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, a three-car garage and a media room with ticket booth.
"We got really good support from the community. Even the city supported us with the permitting,” Crabtree said.
John Nail Development provided the lot; other companies donated supplies or expertise as well, Crabtree said.
"It's been a lot of fun. It's been great to see contractors and suppliers who usually are competitors work together,” Crabtree said.
For instance, Schwarz Ready Mix and
Dolese Bros. Co. each poured half of the concrete slab, driveway and sidewalk, he said.
In addition to the house, other raffle prizes include outdoor patio furniture courtesy of Statuary World; a four-night package at the
Dallas Hilton Anatole, courtesy of
Advantage Bank; and a dinner a month for a year, courtesy of Charleston's Restaurants.
"You have a 1-in-500 chance of winning something. It's better than the lottery,” Flood said.
The raffle tickets are available at area
IBC Bank locations,
Hancock Fabrics in Yukon, or by calling (800) 592-1596 or visiting
www.stjudedreamhome.org. Tickets also may be purchased at the home.
Dream Homes have become
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's biggest fundraiser. This year, homes have been built in 32 markets, including Tulsa, Flood said.
Keeping the hospital running costs $1.2 million every day.
"You can understand the lofty goals they have for us,” Flood said.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. No family pays for treatments not covered by insurance and families without insurance are not asked to pay.
