Driving alone vs. carpool? Oklahomans prefer isolation
A new survey compiled of data from the Census Bureau's American Community Surveys found that 83 percent of Oklahoma residents drive alone to work. Alabama and Tennessee led the nation as the least carpool-friendly state with 86 percent.

Despite campaign attempts to encourage Oklahoma residents to carpool, a new survey shows that most still prefer driving alone to work.
According to 2010 census data, more than three-quarters of the commuter population in 43 states drive alone to work. In Oklahoma, 83 percent drive alone to work and 11 percent carpool.

Alabama, Tennessee and South Carolina ranked among the least carpool-friendly states, while Hawaii and Alaska led the nation in carpooling, according to the survey's interactive map.
