Dual State Wrestling: Edmond North wins first state wrestling title

Led by the Dixon triplets, the Huskies won the Class 6A Dual Wrestling Championship Saturday at Claremore High School, downing Muskogee, 43-25, in the championship final.

“It is one of the greatest feelings I could ever have, to win it with my team,” said Lance Dixon, who will seek to become an individual champion in two weeks along with his brothers, Andrew and Joel. “In the finals, they didn't have a chance when we got down to it.”

“Making history for your school, that's a great feeling for everybody to be a part of,” Andrew Dixon said.

The three Dixon brothers all pinned their Roughers opponents as did Edmond North's Reggie Dunn at 145 pounds and Jordan Armstrong at 120 pounds, whose win clinched the crown for the Huskies with still two matches remaining.

Muskogee, which upset Broken Arrow 28-27 in the semifinals, won three of the first four matches against Edmond North, two by falls, to race to a 16-6 lead.

“Right off the bat we drew to the strength of their lineup,” Edmond coach Andy Schneider said.
