EUGENE, Ore (AP) — Tommy Thorpe allowed just two hits over eight-plus innings and the Oregon Ducks defeated Oregon State 3-0 Friday night in the opening game of a three-game Civil War series at PK Park.
Thorpe (6-4) struck out seven and walked two for the No. 10 Ducks (43-11, 20-5), who join the sixth-ranked Beavers (41-9, 20-5) atop the Pac-12 standings.
Jimmie Sherfy loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth inning but Danny Hayes flew out to center to end the threat. It was Sherfy's 20th save.
The Ducks went up 2-0 in the first inning when Scott Heineman's bunt groundout scored Aaron Payne, and Ryon Healey's single to left scored Brett Thomas from second.
Oregon added a run in the second after Nick Catalano doubled and scored on J.J. Altobelli's bloop single.
Oregon State's Matt Boyd (10-3) got the loss, allowing all three runs on seven hits over eight innings.
