Each week, USA Today releases a poll from its 12-person power rankings panel, which ranks the leaders for the NBA's Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year awards.

Kevin Durant is in good shape, according to the panel, which lists the Oklahoma City Thunder forward as the leader this week in the MVP race.

Durant received eight of of 12 first-place votes from the panel, scoring 76 points to LeBron James' 68. Paul George (Indiana Pacers), Lamarcus Aldridge (Portland Trail Blazers) and Kevin Love (Minnesota Timberwolves) rounded out the top five.

Thunder center Steven Adams comes in fifth this week in the Rookie of the Year rankings.
