The need for blood doesn’t take a vacation. Yet, fewer people typically donate during the summer, according to Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI). Dynasty Care Services, 4337 S.E. 15th St., has stepped up to help with a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, July 20. Anyone who is healthy and 16 years or older* is encouraged to give.
Each donor will receive two free tickets to the Oklahoma City Zoo, a “Feel Fierce” T-shirt, free health screenings and Donor Rewards points.
“For patients in need of blood, there’s no summer vacation,” said John Armitage, M.D., president and chief executive. “That’s why it’s crucial that blood donors take just an hour to donate blood. The lives of our friends, co-workers and neighbors may depend on it.”
Through a special initiative to support the Global Blood Fund (GBF), any donor can forgo the T-shirt offered in appreciation for giving. In turn, funds so designated will then be contributed to GBF for supplies and equipment for blood centers in the world’s poorest countries.
Oklahoma Blood Institute is the eighth largest, non-profit blood center in America, providing every drop of blood needed by patients in 144 medical facilities across the state, including all central Oklahoma hospitals.
Appointments are not necessary, but can be made by calling 877-340-8777 or visiting www.obi.org.
