Good news this week for our favorite state-based, publicly traded, corrosion-protection company.

Tulsa-based North American Galvanizing & Coatings busted out to a new 52-week high on Friday, closing at $11.11. That stock price kind of looks like a slot machine that should pay off, huh?

That's precisely what it looks like for shareholders who owned NGA for at least a week. In the past five trading days, the shares rose more than $2, or 22.9 percent. Most encouraging about the recent price spike was that it occurred on strong volume.

NGA has benefitted from the falling price of zinc, which they dip metals into to provide corrosion protection. In the second quarter, North American Galvanizing posted record earnings for the 10th consecutive quarter.

When a company issues a "going concern” statement, it's always bad news.

Here's what Oklahoma City-based Tronox Inc. said in its quarter earnings report filed Monday:

"If we were to continue to generate losses and negative cash flows, this would raise substantial doubt about our ability to continue as a going concern and we may need to seek alternative financing arrangements.”

Yikes. Here's how Tronox described its gross margin in the second quarter: "nil.”

In case you're not a soccer fan, "nil” means nothing. Tronox, one of the world's biggest producers of titanium dioxide, can't seem to catch a break this year.

TRX shares ended the week south of $1, dropping 21.8 percent to close at 97 cents.
