CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) — Eastern Illinois University has hired longtime Ohio State assistant coach Debbie Black to take over its women's basketball program.

Black was introduced at a news conference on campus in Charleston on Thursday. She takes over for Lee Buchanan, who resigned last month after one season.

Black has been an assistant at Ohio State working for head coach Jim Foster for eight seasons. Those seasons include six Big Ten titles.

Black said Thursday that she believes in never quitting and working hard. She said those traits have served her well as a coach and as a player. Black played at St. Joseph University in the mid-1980s.

Buchanan's team went 20-12 last season and won the Ohio Valley Conference regular season title. He said he was leaving to pursue other opportunities.
