HOOSICK, N.Y. (AP) — An eastern New York woman accused of driving under the influence of drugs and leaving the scene of an accident that killed a bicyclist has been arraigned on manslaughter and other charges.
Local media report 37-year-old Becky Goodermote of Hoosick Falls was in court in Rensselaer County Thursday to face 14 counts, including second-degree manslaughter, second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while impaired by drugs.
Authorities said she may have been doing 70 mph and was talking on a cell phone and texting when she hit 39-year-old Matthew Rattele of Petersburg near Hoosick Falls on Sept. 3. They say she had taken three types of painkillers, oxycodone, hydrocodone and pregabalin.
Goodermote's lawyer denies she was texting, says she wasn't aware she'd hit a person and took the drugs after the accident.
