EDMOND
Fire academy to begin
The Edmond Fire Department's next Citizen's Fire Academy starts March 7.
The 12-week program provides a basic understanding of fire, rescue and emergency medical operations in the fire department.
The program will enhance participants' knowledge of the fire department's capabilities, as well as build relationships between firefighters and residents, said fire Maj. Mitch Rainwater.
Classes are from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays at the Edmond Fire Department Training Center, 5300 E Covell Road.
Applicants must be at least 18, must live or work in Edmond and have no criminal record.

UCO announces enrollment numbers
University of Central Oklahoma officials announced 16,018 students are attending classes on the Edmond campus. This is the second consecutive record-breaking spring semester.
The record tops the previous record by 1.2 percent, set last spring with 15,832 students.
Children's Safety Challenge set
The Edmond Fire Department will host a Spring Break Children's Safety Challenge March 18 and 19 at the Children's Safety Village.
The program, a safety education class that could save a child's life, is designed for children ages 4 through 7.
