City council members will consider Monday a $330,000 supplement to build a road through J.L. Mitch Park to help with the traffic situation around Cheyenne Middle School.

The council meets at 5:30 p.m. at 20 S Littler Ave.

Assistant City Manager Steve Commons said, “The city has been working with the Edmond Public Schools to develop improved traffic flow in the area of Cheyenne Middle School at Kelly and Covell.”

“The completion of the Covell widening has increased the roadway capacity, but currently access is limited to the shared roadway that leads to our skate park.”

The supplemental appropriation will come out of the capital improvement fund. Members of the Capital Projects and Financing Task Force approved the supplement this week. Council members will make a final decision at their meeting.

“We believe there is value to the park and the Edmond Public Schools to build an access road over to Kelly from the skate park road,” Commons said. “This will decrease the amount of traffic that only has the option of going in and out of Covell.”
