High School Day of Dance
The concert Nov. 7 will mark the conclusion of UCO’s High School Day of Dance in which young dance students — who are at least 12 years old — can take four master classes and learn about the UCO dance program.
The event will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A question-and-answer session will cover topics such as dance auditions and scholarships at UCO. The event costs $50 and includes a box lunch and a ticket to that night’s Kaleidoscope Dancers concert. For more information, call 974-5231 or e-mail jjacobson@uco.edu.
Kaleidoscope tickets
Tickets to the Kaleidoscope concert are $14 for adults, $10 for seniors and non-UCO students and $4 for UCO students. To reserve tickets, call the box office at 974-3375.
"It’s an evening full of dance that is both eclectic and exciting. Each piece is very different from the rest. Some of the dances are athletic.
"Others are more emotionally charged,” said
Tina Kambour, assistant director of the UCO Dance Department.
The 25 members of the company also will perform jazz and modern dances.
In addition, Kaleidoscope will welcome guest artists r.a.c.e. — radical application of creative energy, the first professional jazz dance company in
Oklahoma, and local professional ballroom dancers Shelby and Dadbeh Jafari.
"We usually have a range, but with the ballroom dancers there, we have just about every genre covered,” Kambour said.
One of the dances to be premiered, "At a Glance,” is very personal to UCO’s Director of Dance Jamie Jacobson.
"My mother had surgery recently and I spent a lot of time with her, so I developed a work on her life story, with her two sisters and two daughters. For the dance, they are actually building a huge frame that will look like a picture frame. It should look like photographs coming to life,” Jacobson said.
Other UCO faculty choreographers are
Anne Blasdel,
Michelle Moeller,
Hui Cha-Poos,
Emily South and Kambour.
Susan Parks is the
UCO College of Arts, Media & Design marketing and communications manager.
