EDMOND — Mary Ann Karns has been elected the new chairwoman of the Edmond Economic Development Authority.
Karns succeeds former Chairwoman Patrice Douglas, who resigned. Janet Yowell, executive director of the authority, said Douglas resigned to pursue other leadership roles. Hardy Watkins, executive director of the state Tourism and Recreation Department, has been named the vice chairman. Karns, an Edmond attorney, has more than 25 years of municipal economic development experience. She previously served as general counsel to the authority in the late 1970s and 1980s and has been a board member since 2005. Karns is an adjunct professor of law at Oklahoma City University and practices municipal law at Karns Law Office PLLC. The Oklahoma Municipal League recently presented Karns with the 2008 Don Rider Award. A native Oklahoman, Watkins is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a major in journalism. He lives in Edmond.
