The fourth- and fifth-grade students returned Tuesday morning from their trip to the National Elementary Chess Championship in Pittsburgh, Pa. The group tied for seventh place at the competition over the weekend.

Coach David Nichols said students have consistently placed in the Top 10 in their seven appearances in the national chess tournament.

"We had a great time. I think we played about as well as we could have,” Nichols said.
