The fire that destroyed a home at 1716 Ridgecrest Road started in the garage, Edmond firefighters said Monday.

The cause of the Sunday night fire is undetermined, said fire Maj. Gary Dill.

Total damage was estimated at $300,000. The 1.5 story home was a total loss and valued at $190,000. A pontoon boat and contents of the house added to the loss, Dill said.

The house in the Forest Oaks housing addition is owned by Quintin Rudkin.

Rudkin's son and daughter were home when the fire started about 9:10 p.m. Sunday.

The 16-year-old son went to the garage to investigate after his younger sister smelled something, Dill said.

Rudkin was running errands and his wife was at work, Dill said.

Everyone got out of the 2,281-square-foot house safely and no injuries occurred.

The fire was fully involved when firefighters arrived at the home that was built in 1983, Dill said. Firefighters had the fire under control by 9:44 p.m.

Aerosol cans and a propane tank in the garage exploded.
