Edmond Junior Market gives youth creative outlet
EDMOND — Kara Drewke, 17, started by making her own jewelry.

“It was simple, and it looked cute,” she said. “Plus, I didn't have to go out and buy it.”
The high school senior soon began to think she could sell her jewelry and other crafts. Then she heard about the Junior Market, part of the Edmond Farmers Market.
The Junior Market is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays from June through mid-August. Anyone younger than 18 can apply to set up a booth to sell items they have made or grown. The cost is $5, half that of a regular booth at the Farmers Market.
Lindsay Roe, market manager, said there are about 10 booths dedicated to the Junior Market this year.
“There are lots of crafts,” Roe said, “but there also are some junior farmers.”
Roe said it's impressive to watch the young people develop their entrepreneurial skills.
“It's neat to watch them count the change and greet the customers and work on their products,” she said.
Several teens and preteens have found a home at the market.
Victoria Flint, 14, offers her “crocheted cuties,” including head wraps, head bands and socks. She said she works hard to make items for her booth.
