— An Edmond man who admitted to drowning his aunt was charged Friday in Oklahoma County District Court with first-degree murder.

Ronald Vincent Sparks, 47, was arrested May 12 after he told detectives he killed 89-year-old Bernice Daugherty, Edmond police said.

Sparks told police he used his foot to hold the woman's head underwater in a bathtub, and later tried to make her death seem like an accident, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Officers were called about 3:20 p.m. on May 12 to the residence at 1000 E Edwards St. When they arrived, they found Daugherty dead in the bathroom.

Sparks told officers he lived at the home with his mother and his aunt. Police said Sparks' mother was not home when the aunt died.

Daugherty is Edmond's first homicide victim of 2012.
