EDMOND — The Edmond chapter of Mothers of Preschoolers at First Presbyterian Church in Edmond donated more than 500 stuffed animals to two local charities.

The stuffed animals were collected by the preschool and Mother’s Day Out students, as well as friends and neighbors, throughout September.

The idea for an animal donation drive came about when some moms were complaining about how many stuffed animals their children had accumulated. Amanda Daum found S.A.F.E. (Stuffed Animals for Emergencies) on the Internet, and the director, Jennifer Alloy, helped set up the drive. All of the animals and dolls collected were washed, dried, brushed, trimmed and repaired (if needed) by Daum and her 5-year-old daughter, Kylie.

Half of the 500-plus animals collected plus some baby blankets will be donated to Infant Crisis Services in Oklahoma City.

The other half goes to the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Child Welfare Foster Care Services. Daum said she knows how important the need is because her family is a new foster family. She said many foster children come from their homes with nothing.

Anyone can run a stuffed animal drive for S.A.F.E., and the Edmond Mothers of Preschoolers group hopes other organizations follow their lead.

Uplifting response to the loss of life.
I don't live in Edmond and have never heard of Bicycle Bob, but I wonder if anyone tried to reach out to him when he was alive? Was he reclusive? It seems sad that his death brought such a response, but what did people do for him in life? I don't know, but I wonder.
