— Edmond North senior Derek White has a long list of impressive accomplishments on the wrestling mat.

Now, the state champion and Nebraska signee can add Geary Tournament Outstanding Wrestler to that list.

White posted a 24-9 technical fall over Altus' Taven Birdow in the 195-pound championship finals, and was voted outstanding wrestler of the tournament by the coaches.

“It's an awesome award to win,” White said. “I've never really won an outstanding wrestler award in high school, so this is a good first one to win. I'm proud of the way I wrestled, but also really proud of our team this weekend.”

White was one of five champions for the Huskies. Paxton Rosen (106 pounds), Joel Dixon (182 pounds), Lance Dixon (220 pounds), and Andrew Dixon (285 pounds) also won individual titles. Andrew Dixon won the award for most falls in the least amount of time.

Edmond North, No. 1 in Class 6A, finished second in the team race with 147.5 points despite two starters not competing over the weekend.

The Huskies were edged by 6A No. 2 Broken Arrow, which finished with 10 individual placers and 149.5 points.

“Our guys did a great job this weekend,” said Broken Arrow coach Shawn Jones. “We battled every session, every match, and we had to. That's good for us going forward because we know the 6A team race at the end of the season is going to be a battle just like this. This was a lot of fun.”
